Начиная с 60-х, начинает использоваться расширенная версия формы AABA: AABABA, которая с чисто музыкальной точки зрения очень похожа на один из вариантов куплетно-припевной формы: AABAB. (Различие между ними не столько в использовании дополнительной секции A, сколько в функции секции B: в одном случае это "change part", в другом - припев-рефрен.)  Примером может служить знаменитая Yesterday, в которой 5 и 6 куплеты являются точным повторением 3-го и 4-го:

Suddenly,
